John Lodge – Η φωνή και το μπάσο της αιωνιότητας: Αποχαιρετισμός στον αρχιτέκτονα των Moody Blues

 
Ο John Lodge (1943–2025) υπήρξε ένας από τους πιο εμβληματικούς μουσικούς της βρετανικής progressive rock σκηνής, γνωστός κυρίως ως μπασίστας, τραγουδιστής και βασικός συνθέτης των Moody Blues. Η πορεία του ξεκίνησε το 1966, όταν μαζί με τον Justin Hayward αντικατέστησαν τους Denny Laine και Clint Warwick, σηματοδοτώντας τη μετάβαση του συγκροτήματος από το R&B στο συμφωνικό rock.

Απώλεια ενός θρύλου

Ο Lodge έφυγε από τη ζωή στις 10 Οκτωβρίου 2025, σε ηλικία 82 ετών, “ξαφνικά και απροσδόκητα”, όπως ανέφερε η οικογένειά του. Ήταν περικυκλωμένος από αγαπημένα πρόσωπα και τους ήχους των Everly Brothers και Buddy Holly, δύο από τις πρώιμες επιρροές του.

Η οικογένειά του τόνισε την πίστη του, την αγάπη για τη σύζυγό του Kirsten, με την οποία ήταν παντρεμένος από το 1968, και την αφοσίωσή του στα παιδιά και εγγόνια του, ιδιαίτερα στον εγγονό του John-Henry, που ονειρευόταν να παίξει για την Birmingham City

Το "Nights in White Satin" είναι μια κλασική ροκ μπαλάντα των The Moody Blues, που κυκλοφόρησε για πρώτη φορά το 1967. Το τραγούδι με τα φωνητικά του Justin Hayward, που υποστηρίζονται από το χαρακτηριστικό μείγμα ροκ, ποπ και κλασικής μουσικής του συγκροτήματος. Το " Nights in White Satin " είναι ένα τραγούδι του αγγλικού ροκ συγκροτήματος Moody Blues , το οποίο έγραψε ο Justin Hayward . Εμφανίστηκε για πρώτη φορά ως "The Night" στο άλμπουμ Days of Future Passed . Όταν κυκλοφόρησε για πρώτη φορά ως single το 1967, έφτασε στο νούμερο 19 στο UK Singles Chart και στο νούμερο 103 στις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες το 1968. Ήταν η πρώτη σημαντική είσοδος στο τσαρτ από το συγκρότημα μετά το " Go Now " και την πρόσφατη αλλαγή της σύνθεσης του, στο στην οποία είχαν παραιτηθεί ο Denny Laine και ο Clint Warwick και είχαν προσχωρήσει ο Hayward και ο John Lodge .

Όταν επανεκδόθηκε το 1972, το σινγκλ ανέβηκε στο νούμερο δύο στις ΗΠΑ για δύο εβδομάδες στο Billboard Hot 100 (πίσω από το " I Can See Clearly Now " από τον Johnny Nash ) και στο νούμερο ένα στο Cash Box Top 100, καθιστώντας το πιο επιτυχημένο single της μπάντας στις ΗΠΑ.

Έφυγε σε ηλικία 79 ετών o Denny Laine, Άγγλος μουσικός, τραγουδιστής και τραγουδοποιός, γνωστός ως ιδρυτής δύο μεγάλων ροκ συγκροτημάτων των Moody Blues, με τους οποίους έπαιξε από το 1964 έως το 1966, και των Wings, με τους οποίους έπαιξε από το 1971 έως το 1981,ενώ είχε κυκλοφορήσει αρκετά σόλο άλμπουμ. Επίσης είχε συμμετάσχει σε σχήματα όπως οι Ginger Baker's Air Force, Balls και οι Electric String Band
